Throughout the winter God blessed us with a dontated warehouse for our Portland area. We found out this morning that we will likely (and unexpectedly) be losing this space in the very near future. Please pray that God will lead us to a new space that will allow us to operate for the summer.

Thank you all of you that have been praying for Peak 7 and the new OR branch. The Lord provides in incredible ways. We just received $20,000 for a scholarship fund for OR that we can use 70% of the interest for scholarships. As well as another $2,500 that we can use this year for kids in Portland.

Dear Peak 7 crew.

This is Cameron Barclay (Greg Barclay’s son (fire boy)) and I just wanted to email you guys to tell you how much fun the rafting trip was and what a blast I had rafting with my dad and making a few friends and just learning about God and how to become a man. I want to thank Nichole and the rest of the girls for the great food and their help with everything. I also want to thank Ron, Ryan, and Austin for the way they were like friends not just river guides. I had the best week that I can remember. Going through all the rapids and then stopping for lunch, fishing, and talking to Ron about all of his adventures, and Ryan and his jokes and sense of humor, and Austin for his great leadership and how every one there walked with God. It really gave me hope to know that I’m not the only person with problems. When I left it was sad because it felt like I was leaving a family, every one was like a father there. I just want to thank you for making this one of the best weeks of my life with my family and the crew there. Thanks again! I am hopping that I can go on another peak 7 adventure soon.

What, why us??? – continued (some more truly incredible news)

Alright, so the saga continues. We had our year-end board meeting and were looking at next year’s budget. Part of the concern for 2010 is that we would be basically loosing about 100K in support. 50K from the Angel donor (the grant ended in 09) and another 50K from the boys home (they closed down at the end of 09). The board meeting ended and we were tasked with figuring out how we were going to make up that 100K.

Right before Christmas I received a call from Kelly (one of the executers of the organization that gave us the 50K and the van. She said that they had one more vehicle left, a truck and asked if we could use it. It is in incredible condition with a hitch, canopy, extended bed and seating for 6. It is perfect for our climbing program. So, I told her that we could certainly us it.

A week later I let Kelly know that the paperwork for the truck was finalized and she could pull it off their insurance. At the end of our conversation, she told me that they had some additional funds that they were distributing to all of the organizations that they already gave to and that she was telling me this to let me know that we would be receiving another check from them. I did not know what to say. We had already been so blessed by them that there was not really anything that I could say or do that would express our gratefulness. Well, a couple days later the check arrived in the mail and believe it or not it was for $99,800. That is $200 short of our need for this year. Being a part of this ministry and seeing God work in amazing ways has been such a blessing to me. He continues to pour fourth goodness upon His ministry, Peak 7.

Answered Prayer

In September we asked you to pray for us as far as getting permits. As of September we have sent permit applications in but have not received any permits guaranteeing us a certain location. We were calling the National Forests around Washington with little reply. Most places were already full or had put all new permit applications on hold while they did environmental surveys. As of now we have potentially 3 different locations.

Yesterday I got a call from Mike the head ranger in charge of all forest permits in Washington and Oregon. He heard that we were having trouble getting permits from the Special Uses Program Manager in Washington, D.C. which Jon and I met at the America Outdoors Conference. Mike said he was a Christian and looked at our website and wanted to help us. He told us to send him a list of places we wanted to go and he would get us in contact with the right people with his referral.

It is amazing to see how God has continued to provide as we trust Him.

Three weeks ago we sent out one of our quarterly newsletters.

For the content of the newsletter I looked up how much we had left to raise in order to achieve the matching grant for this year (if we raise 150K we would receive an additional 50K). I quickly looked it up and put in the newsletter that all we had left to raise was 23K.

About two weeks ago on Tuesday the 8th of September I started thinking that 23K was a wrong number. I went back into our accounting software and ran the numbers and boy, did I make a mistake. We still had over 60K to raise by the end of the year to achieve the goal of 150K. OUCH, that was a slight mistake if you ask me.

As you can imagine I started worrying about it. I wondered what I could do or say in the next newsletter to fix the mistake. Also, what do I tell our angel donors that are supplying the matching grant! I told Loran about my mistake and prayed about it.

On Thursday the 10th, while I was working at my desk thinking about how I was suppose to handle this issue. I receive a phone call from a lady and she tells me that she is donating 50K to Peak 7. At first I wanted to hang up the phone thinking it was a sales person. Then she let me know that she was the sister of a man that ran a boys home in Spokane that we have provided trips for over the last few years. She informed me that he had passed away suddenly and because of our relationship with them they were going to support us. She also said that they had a bunch of camping, climbing and winter gear that we could have if we would like.

Last Thursday and Saturday we went and picked up climbing gear, skis, and snowboards. We were also given a 50K check as well as a 15 passenger van that only has 10,000 miles on it!

Amazing, in the blink of an eye He takes our deficit from over 60K to under 20K and provides a vehicle that will help us out in running programs for Seattle. Also, winter gear to help us start our winter program.

The Lord sure goes above and beyond when He blesses us.

The Forest Service is redoing the way they handle permits so one of the locations we do our Ascent trips is in question. Please pray as we meet with the rangers that the Lord would guide our conversation and open the doors for us.

One signficant chnage is the addition of 2 new staff members - just starting last month. Jon Cramer and Austin Dannen joined the team in Spokane as Program Coordinators. Please pray that they will learn quickly, that their hearts will meld with the mission of Peak 7, and for unity across all staff and volunteers, even in the exhausting hours of ministry that lie ahead. Pray for their ministry with the kids, that the love the staff and volunteers have for each other will overflow and rain down on the kids, especially those who do not experience that at home.

Here are some specific prayer request for this week:
1) Matt Setliff - Intern - he is going through a difficult time right now. Pray that the Lord would continue to glorify himself in Matt's life, to the great benefit of Matt himself, and that Matt would yield to the Lord and follow him.
2) Ryan & Loran - We are all extremely grateful for everything they do. Please pray for their spiritual protection, for wisdom, for courage in the face of adversity, and that the Lord would keep them from temptation.
3) The groups that might sign up - we are booking trips for 2009. Please pray for the right connections so that as many kids as possible can be effected by Peak 7 this year.
4) The search for a Seattle Area Director - we continue to search for someone to lead the charge in Seattle. Please pray that God would bring this person in his timing, and pray that it would be soon!

The purpose of this site is to post prayer requests for Peak 7 Adventures so that the entire community can be engaged in what is happening "on the ground" (and "on the river", or "in the mountains").
